Someone, somewhere needs a swift kick in the rear for the chronic and UTTER LACK OF URGENCY shown by the servers and staff here. The food at Dave's is good enough, but this location has had a persistent problem with service since it opened in the 2000s. I've had to go walking through the building to find someone to serve me; I've been ignored while multiple servers attend to large groups; I've waited way too long for service after being seated and way too long for ordered food. Much of this occurred at off-peak times when traffic wasn't an issue. I rarely, if ever "blackball" a restaurant for service, particularly when I like the food. It takes a lot to get me this teed off. Danged if they didn't find a way to do it.

Food is good but the price is somewhat high for the amount I got. I haven't had problems with service, but personal convos within earshot of customers isn't professional and should be avoided.

The food is great. We enjoyed a couple of appetizers and they were well prepared. The Salmon spread was very good! Our only complaint, although if you aren't in a big rush, was that it did take a bit of waiting to get the orders. That wasn't really that bad however as it gave us time to chat and digest the first course before getting our entrees. If you are looking for a quick meal in a hurry, then perhaps you should select another restaurant, but the staff was courteous and attentive, the food was well prepared and hot when served. I will go again.

Our trip to St Joseph, Missouri's Famous Dave's BBQ is the first time we have tried this national chain of Barbecue restaurants. If the overall quality of their barbecued meat at other locations is similar to St Joe's, I can understand how they grew so "large" around the country and I would agree that they deserve to be called "FAMOUS Dave's" because the beef brisket and hot links sausage that we were served was really good both in quality and quantity. Our darlin' talkative server kept things lively from the first moment when she brought a small bowl of potato chips dusted with the Dave's rubbing spices to our table and gave us a 'taste-drive' of the five BBQ sauces that are on each table. Hubby's favorite was the Sweet & Zesty and I tended to like the two hotter versions: Texas Pit and Devil's Spit but was also more than a little intrigued by the only vinegar based sauce, Georgia Mustard. It is definitely NOT from around these parts (Missouri) but I kept coming back for another taste throughout the meal and liked it fine. The Hot Link is a smooth textured and very flavorful sausage served in a generous portion on the Combo Plate and done just right to suit my taste. A good counterpart was the brisket. It was a heaping helping of tender and tasty. Combos are served with a side and I chose Wilbur (baked) Beans with a nice little jalapeño kick. There was also a yummy corn muffin. After I took one taste with the Country Crock spread that was served, I ate the rest with Honey. To make the most of the muffin, Dave's really needs to step up their game and offer real butter. Hubby enjoyed his Texas Manhandler Sandwich (brisket and hot link sausage) and side of Wilbur Beans. He was less happy with the Pecan Pie which seemed slightly overdone. I would tend to agree; the filling was very good but the pecans were a little too crunchy and had a slight bitter, burned flavor. The server was cheerful, talkative and competent. She offered a refill on our ice tea when we needed it. Then when she found out we were on the road from Kansas City, she graciously offered to bring us iced teas for the road. And best of all, she remembered I wanted mine with lemon and Hubby did not. So, in all the important aspects, Famous Dave's BBQ is a place we would be willing to visit again. And I would just hope that the quality in food and service at another location would live up to the one in St Joe.

The food was good but a little pricey I felt for what you got. The ribs were moist and meaty. Their specialty drinks were good but overpriced. Their signature sauce is very good. The service was good and everyone was friendly. We even got a free bottle of sauce since it was our first time here!

This is a brand new restaurant in downtown St. Joseph. It's a nice alternative to Jimmy Johns and Subway. The staff was very friendly and the food was better than the average sub shop. I had the roast beef and I like how they give you a separate container to dip the sub in au jus. It's nice how they have different side dishes that you won't find at other sub shops (e.g. macaroni salad). My finance was a dollar short on a sub and they offered to let her pay with an IOU. Very courteous! We found the extra dollar =) The interior decor is pretty empty right now, but it's only been open for six days before we went in. I like the outdoor seating area that gives you a nice view of downtown St. Joe. In addition, the location is close to Silver Beach.
